Paintings & Drawings
10-6; busy was created while balancing work and completing my B.S. degree from Shepherd University. As much as i admired the art majors, I was dedicated to my path of science - but my need to create was imminent. As many of my paintings, the meaning and sentimental value grew with each layer.
Originally I perused a p elegant self portrait, but it became challenging striving to keep up with the academically trained art majors while simultaneously fostering my new passion for gospatial science (GIS) - instead this painting called for expression and a "release of pressure". The portriat aged and dripped as did my exhaustion, then the new face was invited to a scramble of colors and strokes - sparking a natural joy and an inconsequential exploration. Only for the face to be confined into a beige rectangle. This beige rectangle was subconsciously heavily inspired by Hurvin Anderson's "Uhuru",2016. The white flower with six petals and six stamens is supposed to be a reminder of the beauty and hope outside of the confinement or close-mindedness.
As the crucial busy days continue, the importance of creation from expression becomes more prevalent. The title for this painting was originally "six days" but changed in 2024 to "10-6;busy".
Currently on display at The Clay Center in Charleston, WV from June 14th - September 14th 2025.
